Summary of EDI Summer Event – July 16, 2024
We recently sponsored and attended the Electronic Discovery Institute’s Summer Meeting held at the Microsoft campus in Redmond, WA. This venue was unique as it allowed us to interact with the team at Microsoft that owns the discovery and compliance-related products such as Purview.
Although GenAI was featured prominently, the sessions were balanced and covered legal operations, modern data sources, and cybersecurity incident response. Some key takeaways from the sessions:
- Engaging core stakeholders early on is important to building tech adoption. Invite all to demos to help vet and get feedback early on. This ensures they have buy-in and helps in change management (Legal Ops)
- Cross-training for in-house and outside counsel reduces learning curves and overall cost (Legal Ops)
- Once the technology exists that can reliably capture hyperlinked docs, we’ll all be required to do so (Modern Data Challenges)
- Progress is moving faster than expected but we’re still in the “trough of disappointment”. You should go beyond past paradigms to achieve things you couldn’t in the past (GenAI)
- Hybridization between GenAI and CAL is a good application…improving stance on case strategy saves money and time (GenAI)
- Cyber incident response is about having a good plan and keeping it evergreen so it works when needed. Everyone has a (cybersecurity) plan until they get punched in the mouth (with a breach)
If any of the above is interesting, let’s talk. Until then, we look forward to seeing everyone at the Electronic Discovery Institute’s Leadership Summit on October 16th-18th. Contact us.
